Exploring the Kinabatangan

Take a cruise down the Kinabatangan river (Sabah's longest river) in search of the endemic Proboscis Monkey and host of other wildlife including the famous Orangutan, estuarine crocodile, the elusive Borneo Pygmy Elephant and a spectacular assembly of birdlife.
Pay a visit to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre where orphaned and injured orangutans are brought to be rehabilitated then returned to the wild. Take a tour of Gomantong Cave famed for its edible bird's nests and the many other attractions in Sandakan including the Central Market where one can find an amazing variety of fresh seafood and agricultural producst, Sim-Sim Water Village whose houses are built on the river and the hilltop Puh Jih Syh Buddhist Temple which offers a panoramic view of Sandakan Bay.

Climbing Mt Kinabalu can be done in 2 days but a more comfortable 3-day climb is recommended to help climbers better acclimatise to the altitude and to fully enjoy the rich biological diversity the mountain has to offer - Mt Kinabalu boasts more than 6,000 plants species, many of them exotic and rare, including a rich variety of the pitcher plants (Nepenthes) and the Rafflesia (the largest flower in the world).
Hiking up the well-worn mountain trails require only basic fitness levels. However climbers who have health conditions or are over 50 years of age are encouraged to get a medical certificate certifying their fitness to make the climb.
Park regulations require that climbers engage the services of a registered mountain guide (rest easy, go with us and we'll take care of all of that for you).
Porters can be engaged at Park Headquarters if necessary.

Danum Valley is a conservation area covering approximately 438 squalre kilometres. It has an extensive diversity of tropical flora and fauna including over 270 bird species, the rare East Sumatran Rhinoceros, Bornean orangutans, gibbons, mousedeer and clouded leopards. There is plent for visitors to do here - jungle trekking, bird watching and night jungle tours.
The closest town to the valley is Lahad Datu and the drive to Danum valley takes approximately 2 hours mainly over logging roads.

Get up close and personal with Green Turtles as they lay their eggs on the warm sands of Selingan Turtle Island and get a better understanding of the ongoing conservation efforts to protect these endangered animals.
Kinabalu Park, Malaysia's first World Heritage Site is also the Centre of Plant Diversity in South East Asia boasting more that 5,000 vascular plant species and more than 90 lowland mammal species.
The national park is well known for its many carnivorous plant and orchid species amongst them the infamous Nepenthes Rajah (the world's largest pitcher plant) and one of the world's rarest orchids - the Rothschild Slipper Orchid. It is also home to a multitude of endemic animal species, including the Kinabalu Giant Red Leech and Kinabalu Giant Earthworm.
The mountain garden is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily and visitors are free to roam the gardens on their own. There are also scheduled garden tours led by local rangers and guides.

Klias Mangrove Wildlife and Fireflies

The Klias Wetlands is a mangrove forest reserve just off the road from the town of Beaufort to Kuala Penyu.
Take a leisurely ride down the river in search of a variety of unique wildlife including the Proboscis and Macaque monkeys, and the Silver Langur and at dusk, after a sumptuos Malay buffet, take to the river once more and bear witness the surreal - thousands of fireflies performing their nightly dance to the tune of the wild outdoors.
